Race report
Initially, Julius Johansen and Romet Pajur are the day’s escapees, but as the peloton keeps up the chase, Milan Vader and Markus Hoelgaard replace Pajur at the front. The three of them build up a lead of nearly 3 minutes.
The peloton reels in the break on the first ascent up the Alto de la Primera Cruz.
Several attacks follow one after another until Victor Campenaerts gives it a go, while Søren Wærenskjold bridges across. The Belgian drops the Norwegian and pushes on alone, but his efforts come to an end just before the second and last ascent up the Alto de la Primera Cruz.
Tom Pidcock accelerates on the final climb, dropping everyone from his wheel. The Brit solos to victory, while Iván Romeo limits his losses to 12 seconds, which is good enough to secure the overall win.
