From the start, the route heads uphill at moderate gradients. A short descent and a gently rising section are followed by a 7.9-kilometre climb at 3.6%. The riders reach the summit after just under 30 kilometres, at an altitude of around 700 metres.
The rest of the stage takes place at roughly the same altitude – between 550 and 800 metres. Last year, the riders faced a similar course on the third day of the Ruta del Sol, with Alexander Kristoff sprinting to victory ahead of Ben Turner and Maxim Van Gils.
The finale is identical to last year, meaning the road rises slighly over the final 2.5 kilometres.
The Golden Kilometre, which starts after 152 kilometres, features three sprints with 3, 2 and 1 bonus seconds on offer, while 10, 6 and 4 seconds are up for grabs at the finish line.
