Ruta del Sol 2025 Route stage 2: Alcaudete - Torredelcampo
Last year, Alcaudete hosted the 5-kilometre prologue, which turned out to be the only stage of that edition. This time, the riders head east towards the base of the first of three classified climbs. The Puerto del Castillo Locubín is an 8.2-kilometre ascent with an average gradient of 5.4%.
The route then turns in a northerly direction, and 22 kilometres after passing Valdepeñas de Jaén, the riders tackle the Alto de Los Villares. It’s an 8.7-kilometre climb with an average gradient of 6.3%, with the first half on tarmac from hell. As it’s part of an intermediate loop, the climb is tackled twice.
The last time over the Alto de Los Villares comes with 43.7 kilometres remaining. Most of the climbing is done by then, but not all of it. First, the road rises at modest gradients towards Martos, but it is the finale that truly commands respect. The last 1.5 kilometres present a sheer wall for the riders.
