The riders pedal across the Po Valley towards San Marino over the first 80 kilometres. As they enter the microstate, the road climbs for 5.5 kilometres at an average gradient of 6.9%. The last 1.8 kilometres are the steepest, with a gradient of 9.6%.
Once at the top, the road doesn’t immediately go downhill. Instead, there’s a rolling section of 6 kilometres before the descent.
It’s a relatively short descent and then road climbs again for 3.3 kilometres at 7.6% towards Trebbio. An even shorter drop is followed by the Monte Osteriaccia, which is a climb of 8.2 kilometres with an average gradient of 4.2%.
The riders fly down from the Monte Osteriaccia, only to go up again after Ponte in Foglia. The riders face a slight uphill gradient for over 12 kilometres before they descend to the final 500 metres. The gradient kicks up to 14%, while the full 500 metres averages 7.8%.
The first three riders on the line earn time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds.
