Race report
Despite a lot of attacks it’s long gruppo compatto, but then Dani King gives it a go and she races to a gap of 30 seconds before she is caught. Then Cipriani, Koppenburg, Stultiens, Kitchen, Ratto, Gutierrez, Hosking, Paladin, Guderzo, Jackson, Bujak, Ryan and Cecchini get more lucky. They race to lead of more than 3 minutes, while Hosking can’t follow the pace.
Stultiens wins the intermediate sprint in San Giorgio ahead of Jackson and Cipriani.
On the flanks of the Passo Serra – 6.5 kilometers at 4.4% – the gap goes down to 1’42”, but afterwards
it bounces back to 2 minutes. The chasing group consists of some 30 riders.
In the last kilometres the chasers close in, but they can’t bridge the gap. In the ensuing sprint the Spanish Champion Sheyla Gutierrez bests the 24-year old Italian Soroya Paladin.
