Giro Rosa 2017: Bastianelli sprints to victory, Van der Breggen retains in maglia rosa

The 9th stage of the Giro Rosa is played out on a route with hills in the first half and a pan-flat finale. Marta Bastianelli outsprints Lotta Lepistö and Giorgia Bronzini, while a lot of fast finishers were dropped in the hilly opening. Anna van der Breggen finishes safely in the main group to retain in pink. (Slideshow route/profile)

Race report
A lot of sprinters are dropped in the hilly opening of the race. Wild, Confalinieri, Hosking Guarischi, Roy and D’Hoore can't follow the pace and with 50 kms done Bertizzolo, Cecchini, Frapporti, Mackaij, Covrig, Cordon-Ragot and King jump off the front of the race. Yet, they are brought back.

Jasinska, Kitchen and Trevisi jump clear from the main group at km 80. They race to a lead of 1'26", yet they are brought back in within the last 2 kms.

In the ensuing sprint Marta Bastianelli powers to victory.
