Giro Rosa 2017 Route stage 1: Aquileia – Grado

Friday, 30 June 2017 - Stage 1 in the Giro Rosa is a team time trial of 11.5 kilometres. The route runs from Aquileia to Grado. Flat roads and hardly any bends, so speedwise that is perfect.

In last three editions, the Giro Rosa set off with a short individual time trial. So this time a team time trial, which is a first. The Giro Rosa never featured a team time trial before.

The SR 352 runs from departure place Aquileia to arrival place Grado. The women hit the road and for 5 kilometres the road travels straight over the Marano lagoon. Water on the right and water on the left - yet, we are to too far from to Venezia. Side effect is that winds could have an impact.

Team time trials and women - to be fair, that's an unusual combination. Basically, only the Worlds and the Open de Suède Vårgårda. Boels-Dolmans took both these races in 2016, albeit on longer routes than today's 11.5 kilometres.
