Giro 2025 Route stage 8: Giulianova – Castelraimondo
It’s been a while since Castelraimondo last hosted a major cycling race. Ten years ago, Tirreno-Adriatico finished here after an epic stage with a brutal finale. Back then, Wout Poels claimed victory after attacking on the final climb.
That climb rose 4.2 kilometres at an average gradient of 7.3%, with sections up to 15%. From there, the riders descended 6 kilometres to the finish in Castelraimondo.
This time, the last climb of the day is more of a wall. It rises for 700 metres at 9.3% to Gagliole, after which the riders fly down a 6.5 descent into Castelraimondo.
Along the way, the riders tackle the Croce di Casale (8.6 kilometres at 4.6%), Valico di Santa Maria Maddalena (13.1 kilometres at 7.4%), Montelago (5.5 kilometres at 4.6%), and the unclassified Castel Santa Maria (300 metres at 7.4%) before arriving at the foot of the climb to Gagliole.
The riders pass through Gagliole with 6.5 kilometres to go - the first 4.5 kilometres are downhill, while the rest is flat.
The final intermediate sprint comes 177.4 kilometres into the race, with 6, 4, and 2 bonus seconds up for grabs; the first three riders on the line bag 10, 6, and 4 seconds.
