Giro 2025 Favourites stage 13: Puncheurs at Monte Berico
foto: Cor VosStage 13 of the Giro is flat, except for a number of short, steep climbs. The final one is at the finish, so that's perfect for the punchers in the peloton. After the flamme rouge, the road rises with nearly a 10% gradient to the line.
The route is very straightforward. The roads are flat all day, except for six short, and sometimes quite steep, climbs. The first one is the Passo Roverello, 3.4 kilometres at 6.8%, with the summit after 31.5 kilometres. After that, the route is flat for another 90 kilometres, before five more climbs appear in the last 60 kilometres.
The first climb of this series is 1.4 kilometres at 6.7% and is unclassified. Immediately after the descent, the road climbs for 5 kilometres at 6.6% towards San Giovanni in Monte. At the top, there are still 45 kilometres to go.
The race ends with a local loop, starting directly with the climb that will also serve as the finish. It opens with 300 metres at 2%, followed by 750 metres at an unforgiving 10%. Almost immediately after the descent, the riders will climb for 1.8 kilometres at 6.6% towards Arcugnano. When they pass through the village, there are 10.4 kilometres remaining.
After the descent, the riders race over the flat section to the familiar final climb. As mentioned, it starts with 300 metres at 2%, before the last 750 metres kick up at 10%.
On a route like this, the breakaway is easy to control, so there’s a good chance the attackers will be caught in time, allowing the best punchers in the peloton to battle it out for the win.
