Chances are not all fast men will still be in the race when the Giro concludes with a criterium in the Italian capital. Illness, those brutal mountain stages, crashes… there are plenty of reasons why the peloton will be thinned out by the time the final stage rolls around.

But let’s hope most of the sprinters have made it through — and that we’ll see a fitting finale on the Via del Circo Massimo in Rome.
