Eneco Tour 2014 Route stage 1: Terneuzen - Terneuzen (NL)
Monday, August 11 - The Eneco Tour 2014 starts on the Dutch coast with a 181.9 kilometres stage beginning and ending in Terneuzen. Along the way, riders make different loops through Zeeland, a province with islands and peninsulas that are interconnected by dams and bridges. An extremely flat stage, but the wind can play a crucial role. (Slideshow route/profile)
Terneuzen has had the honours of being host of the 2008 Eneco Tour. That was a very windy stage from Nieuwegein in the middle of Holland to the finish line along the Westerschelde. Daniele Bennati outpowered Jurgen Roelandts on the line. Last year Terneuzen saw the start and finish of the one day race Tour of Zeeland Seaports. André Greipel was victor after a bunch sprint.
In 2013 the Eneco Tour started in Belgium in Koksijde and finished in Ardooie. A flat stage as well, but no bunch sprint. Mark Renshaw (image) managed to make a succesful jump in the last kilometre.
Today riders pass the finish line four times. Odds are on the finale will see a bunch sprint, however don’t be suprised if the wind will have its say in this coastal region.
