Race report
Pure bred attacker Thomas De Gendt forms the breakaway with Nils Politt, Georg Zimmermann, Jonas Gregaard, Edvald Boasson Hagen and Leon Heinschke. The six open up a lead of 4 minutes.
Yellow jersey Bjerg goes down at the base of the Côte d’Ivory. Meanwhile, Gregaard attacks from the lead group, but Carapaz and Vingegaard overhaul him. The Tour de Grance Champion heads out alone in the last 1.5 kilometres of the climb. He reaches the summit 35 seconds ahead of the first chasers.
The Dane consolidates on descent to win the stage and double up with the yellow jersey. Alpahilippe bests Tobias Halland Johannessen in the sprint for second place.
