Race report
Mathieu Burgaudeau and Lorenzo Milesi attack from the gun. The peloton agrees and the two carve out a comfortable margin. When Milosi stays behind, Burgaudeau pushes on alone to a lead of 6 minutes.
Several riders are chasing on Côte de Bellevue-la-Montagne and the gap goes down to 4 minutes. The counter attackers are reeled in before the summit, while Burgaudeau’s solo raid is history well before the midway marker.
Race leader Laporte gains 3 seconds in the intermediate sprint, Alaphilippe takes 2, and Trentin 1.
The race comes down to a bunch sprint. Danny van Poppel leads out Sam Bennett, who runs out of steam and hinders Dylan Groenewegen before the Dutchman shoulders his way back in contention. Meanwhile, the road opens for race leader Christophe Laporte and he powers to triumph.
Bennett and Groenewegen are relegated afterwards for irregular sprinting and Matteo Trentin and Milan Menten take their places.
