World Cycling Championships 2025: Route Road Race – women
Saturday, 27 September - The women's road race at the World Championships in Rwanda is played out on a local circuit of 14.9 kilometres, which the riders take on eleven times. Each lap includes 304 metres of climbing, bringing the total elevation gain to 3,350 metres. The 164.6-kilometre route is situated at an altitude of 1,500 metres above sea level.
The circuit features two climbs. The Côte de Kigali Golf is an 800-metre ascent with an average gradient of 8.1%, while the Côte de Kimihurura climbs 1.3 kilometres at 6.3%. Moreover, the latter climb is cobbled.
Each lap begins with a rolling descent of 6.3 kilometres, followed by the Côte de Kigali Golf. The ‘summit’ is misleading, as the route drags on as a false flat for a while.
Once the riders truly reach the top, there are still 6.5 kilometres remaining to the finish. This section begins with a descent, and at 2.4 kilometres from the finish, the riders face the uphill cobbles of the Côte de Kimihurura. After reaching the top, the road flattens for a few hundred metres before rising again at over 4% for the final 900 metres to the line.
