Race report
The pace is high and no riders manages to stay way. Patricia Ortega and Maryna Varenyk give it a go after 40 kilometres. Olympic Champion Anna Kiesenhofer and Tota Magalhaes rejoin them and the four carve out a lead of almost 4 minutes.
A regroupment takes place with 37 kilometres left to race. Moments later Georgia Williams and Aranza Villalon head out together to open up a 40 seconds lead. Villalon wins the intermediate sprint before red jersey Marianne Vos takes the 2 remaining seconds.
Silke Smulders, Angnieszka Skalniak-Sojka and Sigrid Ytterhus Haugset bridge across inside the last 20 kilometres. Just before the last climb the five attackers are reeled in.
Several Van Vleuten attacks at the plateau after the Alto de Horche are shut down. Then Lippert jumps clear before the downhill begins. Vollering bridges across to the German Champion and the two fly down towards Guadalajara.
Lippert and Vollering are caught inside the last 3 kilometres before Reusser strikes in the last kilometre. Dygert brings her back and then it’s Vos to power to her second stage win, thus extending her lead in the general classification.
