Vuelta 2024: Favourites

fotobureau Cor VosPrimoz Roglic won the 2024 Vuelta a España. Along with Wout van Aert and Kaden Groves, the Slovenian was also the most successful stage hunter, with each of them taking three stage wins.

Battle for red at iconic finish

The riders traverse two big mountains in the 16th stage of La Vuelta before the iconic finish climb to the Lagos de Covadonga kicks in. The stage features 4,000 metres of climbing, and the ascent to the line is an absolute killer. A GC clash is the most likely, and certainly the most anticipated, scenario.

Sprinters or attackers

The riders face an elevation gain of 2,650 metres in stage 17 of La Vuelta. Most climbing is done in two mid-race ascents. The strongmen sprinters in the race should be able to survive these challenges, if not, it’s going to be a day for the breakaway specialists.
