Race report
Attacks are everywhere in an entertaining first phase. Then Kenny Elissonde, Eduardo Sepulveda, Julius Johansen and Eric Fagundez give it a go after 33 kilometres, while Sepulveda pushes on alone when they are caught. Amanuel Gehbreigzabhier and Pierre Latour rejoin him, shortly followed by Damiano Caruso, Jasha Sütterlin, Lennard Kämna, Andrea Vendrame, Rune Herregodts and Jon Barrenetxea. Mathis Le Berre and Jose Manuel Diaz make it eleven at the front after a 20 minutes chase. They carve out a maximum lead of over 5 minutes.

The lead group is down to Sepulveda, Caruso and Kämna and they reach the summit in that order. The peloton is trailing at 1 minute, while Sepulveda punctures on descent.

Kämna tries to get rid off Caruso on the finish climb. Following several failed attempts, he distances the Italian in the last 3 kilometres. But the GG group is close behind…

Kuss counters an Ayuso attack. Soler goes with him. The Spaniard kicks again when a regroupment takes place and he is alone in the lead. Meanwhile, Thomas has been dropped from the GC group.

It comes together again before Evenepoel opens the sprint in the last few hundred metres. Vingegaard can’t come across and the title defender wins the race 1 second ahead of most of his rivals. He also moves into the overall race lead.
