Race report
Matteo Sobrero initiates the breakaway on the Coll de Sant Bartomeu. Javier Romo and Joel Nicolau rejoin the Italian, while Andrea Piccolo bridges across on descent. Jetse Bol makes it five at the front after a 10 kilometres chase. They open up a 3 minutes lead.
Matteo Sobrero and Javier Romo both take 6 KOM points on the intermediate climbs.
Bol and Nicolau can’t follow the pace in the last 50 kilometres, while Sobrero loses contact inside the last 24 kilometres. Moments later red jersey Milesi hits the deck and he will lose the jersey.
The GC timings are taken with 9 kilometres to go and that’s where Piccolo and Romo are still 18 seconds clear. So the young Italian moves into the GC lead. The two are caught early on the Montjuïc circuit.
Kron strikes on the Montjuïc climb and reaches the summit with a small lead. He powers on to the best win in his career.
