Race report
Richard Carapaz intiates the breakaway on the Alt de Begues. Carlos Verona, Guillaume Martin, David de la Cruz and Simon Carr join the Olympic Champion. Geoffrey Bouchard, Mikel Bizkarra and Tsgabu Girmay track them down. The leaders open up a 2 minute gap, but that’s all they get.
The gap has been halved when the leaders enter the Barcelona circuit before De la Cruz is the last attacker to be reeled in with 28 kilometres remaining. Evenepoel takes over with Roglic in his wheel, while Soler bridges across a little later.
Evenepoel tries to distance Roglic on the Alt de Castell de Montjuïc in the penultimate lap, but Soler is the only one who suffers. The two push on together and the World Champion takes the stage, while the Olympic ITT Champion takes the overall victory in Catalonia.
