Race report
Attacks are flying from the gun and eventually Jetse Bol, Rune Herregodts, Alessandro De Marchi, Paul Miquel and Oscar Onley manage to go clear.
The five crest the first classified climb with a 4 minutes lead. Herregodts gains most KOM points at the summit, while Bol takes most points at the second climb, and Miquel on the third. The 22-year old Spaniard is dropped from the breakaway on the last KOM climb of the day before Bol sprints into the KOM stripes at the top.
The lead group is brought back with 6.2 kilometres to go before it comes down to a sprint of big guns. Roglic opens early and Evenepoel closes rapidly in the final metres, but lacks the final punch to go for the win. Roglic is the first GC leader in Catalunia.
One of the other hot GC favourites, Adam Yates, crashes in the finale and crosses the line more than 10 minute later.
