Race report
Following a fast start Zeits, Vuillermoz, Nibali (Antonio), Gesbert, Samitier and Zardini escape after more than 30 kilometres, while Aranburu bridges across. They race to a lead of 3 minutes before Samitier is the first rider to reach the top of the Forcella di Brez. The lead group is brought back on the Passo Predaia.
Vincenzo Nibali puts pressure on his rivals. Sivakov, Geoghegan Hart and Majka are the only riders left in his slipstream.
Majka attacks on the top of the steep La Puntara climb with 4 kilometres to go, but he is brought back under the flamme rouge. The race comes down to a sprint of four – or actually a sprint of two. Geoghegan Hart opens early and holds off Nibali to claim the win and move into second place overall. His team mate Sivakov stays in the GC lead.
