Tour of the Alps 2019 Route stage 3: Salurn - Balselga di Pinè
The riders travel across Südtirol and Trentino and following 8 kilometres on the flat the route is a war of attrition. Ups and downs until the finish line, so expect compelling racing.
The first challenging climb leads to Palù di Giovo, home town of former Giro d'Italia winners Francesco Moser and Gilberto Simoni. The undulating route continues to Cembra and Segonzano area. The halfway mark comes with double digit gradients on the 4.7 kilometres climb to Brusago. The first 500 metres go up at 13.2% before the ascent continues to rise at over 10% in the first 2 kilometres. The average gradient of the Brusago climb is 7.7%.
On descent the riders fly through Baselga di Pinè for the first time. After 74 kilometres they reach Torchio only to go back up again on the 5.6 kilometres at 7.4% ascent to Lago di Santa Colomba. A sharp descent and a relatively flat intermezzo lead to the possibly decisive final climb. The ascent from Lago di Canzolino to Montagnaga is 5 kilometres and slopes at almost 8%. The last kilometres of the race are predominantly flat.
The first three riders on the line win time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds.
