Race report
In a fast opening Harry Birchill and Magnus Sheffield jump free after 40 kilometres. The peloton keeps chasing and Burchill is dropped from the front, but he makes it back when the bunch slows down a little.
The duo opens a 1 minute gap before Tom Pidcock strikes on Robin Hood’s Bay. The attack is shut down by Michael Woods.
Attacks keep flying and the two attackers are caught on Egton Bank. A group of 25 riders pushes on over the summit. All favourites are on board. The collaboration is not good and the peloton re-groups with almost 60 kilometres to go.
Pidcock, Woods and Onley jump from the peloton at Carlton Bank. The trio opens a 48 seconds gap, but that's gone at the foot of Newsgate Bank. Serrano wins the times bonus sprint ahead of Pidcock and Teuns at the summit.
The three push on over the top with Fraile. The Spaniard pulls hard to hold off the chasers and launch the sprint of his team mate Pidcock. But it's his compatriot Serrano who says 'muchas gracias' and takes both the stage win and leader's jersey.
