Tour of Britain 2022

Tour of Britain 2022Edition 82 of the Tour of Britain is on the cycling calendar from Sunday 4 September to Sunday the 11th. The inaugural edition was held in 1945, just after the Second World War, and after numerous incarnations – at times resulting in multiple editions during one season – the current version of the race began in 2004. So yes, one could argue it will be the 18th Tour of Britain. The 8-day stage race is played out on flat to hilly terrain. (Slideshow route/profile)

The Big Start of the 2022 edition will be in Aberbeen and the Grande Finale on the Isle of Wight. The 1st stage traverses the Scottish Highlands to finish on the 9.1 kilometres long climb to Glenshee Ski Centre. Most of the other stages are far from flat either, although stage 4 and stage 8 stands out. The fourth day will see a trying finale near Helmsley with Carlton Bank and Newgate Bank, respectively 2 kilometres at 9.8% and 2 kilometres at 6%. The riders will be criss-crossing the Isle of Wight on the final day of action. In fact, the Tour of Britain reaches its finale on the punchy climb to Tennyson Down, with its last 400 metres at an unforgiving 9.6%.

Wout van Aert is title holder. He won last year’s race after an intriguing battle ahead of Ethan Hayter and Julian Alaphilippe.
