The race consists of several laps. The first circuit is almost 50 kilometres long and connects Greenock, Nuriootpa, Angaston, Bethany and Tanunda. The other circuit is about 26 kilometres in length.
Menglers Hill appears in all laps. It is a moderate ascent at 3.6% but with sections up to 13%. There are mountain points available at the summit in the second and the fourth round.
The last edition of the Tour Down Under – in 2020 – also featured a Tanunda-Tanunda stage, although the race was played out on a diffent route. Back then, Sam Bennett outgunned Jasper Philipsen on the line to take the first ochre jersey of that edition.
Two intermediate sprints come with 3, 2 and 1 seconds each, while the first three riders one the line take time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds.
