Race report
Frank van den Broek, Stefan Bissegger and Anders Foldager establish the breakaway early on. The trio tackles the finishing climb over 1 minute ahead of the peloton.
Van den Broek goes alone on the climb, while Cian Uijtdebroeks and Enric Mas get dropped from the GC group.
Adam Yates attacks with 3.5 kilometres remaining. He gobbles up the lone attacker and continues on his own. However, the first chasers – João Almeida, Egan Bernal, Mattias Skjelmose – remain close behind.
Almeida catches up with Yates in the final kilometre. He takes the lead, seemingly to set the pace for his team leader, but he pushes so hard that he drops Yates in the last 500 metres. The Portuguese rider doesn’t wait and wins the race by 6 seconds ahead of Yates. With the bonus seconds added, he closes the gap by 10 seconds, but the Brit still holds the lead in the general classification.
