Two years ago, the Tour de Suisse ended with an ITT in Vaduz, which was played out on a 25.6 kilometres course. Remco Evenepoel took the stage victory ahead of Geraint Thomas, who sealed the overall triumph.
This time, Vaduz sees the start of the race on a short and pan-flat route. Last year, the Tour de Suisse opened on a flat ITT course as well, although the route was almost three times longer. Stefan Küng took the spoils ahead of Remco Evenepoel and Wout van Aert.
Vaduz is the capital of the dwarf state of Liechtenstein. It’s located along the Rhine River at an elevation of 455 metres. The reigning prince of Liechtenstein resides in Vaduz Castle, a 12th-century building overlooking the town. Both the start and finish are close to the castle.
