It would be something if Mark Cavendish storms to triumph in Saint-Vulbas. If he does, he will surpass Eddy Merckx’s Tour de France stage victory record to become the sole record holder with 35 stage wins. Yet, it remains to be seen if he can pull off another win. In France, he faces the crème de la crème of the sprinters’ guild.

Two days ago, Biniam Girmay took the first sprint finish in de Tour. The Eritrean outperformed Fernando Gaviria and Arnaud De Lie in a chaotic finale

Last year, Jasper Philipsen was the top sprinter in the Tour with four stage wins, thanks to his luxury lead-out from Van der Poel. The Belgian hit the deck in Turin and he was unable to sprint.
