There’s a little climb for mountain points 10 kilometres after the start, and that’s it, really, in terms of climbing. The Col du Bois Clair is 1.6 kilometres long and averages 6%. After that, the riders head north through Burgundy on flat to gently rolling roads to an inevitable bunch sprint in Dijon.
The first sprint of the Tour was surprisingly won by Biniam Girmay. The Eritrean outperformed Fernando Gaviria and Arnaud De Lie in a chaotic finale.
The second sprint was just as surprising. Cavendish did what few thought possible: he won his 35th Tour stage, becoming the record holder. And it was certainly well-deserved, as second and third place finishers Philipsen and Kristoff had no chance.
