O Gran Camiño 2025 Route + results stage 4: A Pobra do Brollón – O Cebreiro
Saturday, 1 March - The Queen Stage of O Gran Camiño is a 136.4-kilometre ride with 3,133 metres of elevation gain. Most of the climbs come in the final 60 kilometres, and the finish is uphill.
In the first 75 kilometres, there’s not much to worry about. A 5-kilometre climb at 4.8%, and that’s about it.
The Alto de Fonte de Saudé, at 5.5 kilometres at a 5.3% average gradient, serves as a gentle introduction to what’s coming. The summit is well past halfway, after 81 kilometres.
On the Alto de Catrocentos, the pressure starts to mount. This 8.4-kilometre climb, with an average gradient of 5.7%, begins 38 kilometres from the finish.
After the descent, the course is pretty much all uphill, apart from some minor downhill sections. First up is the Alto de Pintinidoira, a climb that starts with 4.7 kilometres at 8.3%, before briefly descending and then climbing another 5 kilometres, often at double-digit gradients, though it occasionally flattens out. The full climb is 13.3 kilometres long with an average gradient of 5.7%, but that figure doesn’t really tell the whole story, as it’s the irregularities that make it a real killer.
At the summit of Alto de Pintinidoira, there are still 15 kilometres remaining. There’s no descent, but the route continues rolling for about 10 kilometres. Then it drops briefly before rising in the final 2.8 kilometres at 6.5% towards the finish.
The first three riders to finish bag 10, 6, and 4 bonus seconds, while there are 3, 2, and 1 second bonuses up for grabs at the intermediate sprints.
