So that’s ample opportunity for strong descenders like Stefan Küng and Michael Rogers. The former took a stage in recent Tour de Romandie after a brilliant final descent, while the Australian won last year’s stage 11 in Italy after attacking on the final descent. Enrico Battaglin and Gianluca Brambilla were strong also.
Another option would be a bunch of escapees taking an early break to the end as the first 90 kilometres is all uphill and downhill. And yes, maybe an unknown Italian pops up to savour his ‘moment of eternal glory’.
