World Cycling Championships 2020 Imola: Alaphilippe takes rainbow jersey

Race report
Seven riders jump clear on the first climb up the Via Mazzolano. Eduard Grosu, Daniil Fominykh, Jonas Koch, Yuki Arashiro, Torstein Traeen, Ulises Castillo and Marco Friedrich opens up a gap of 7 minutes.
With 70 kilometres left the remaining attackers, Koch and Traeen, are caught by the peloton.
Pogacar attacks on the penultimate climb up the Cima Calisperna. He reaches the summit with a lead of 8 seconds, which he widens to 25 seconds when he enters the final lap.
On the Via Mazzolano Dumoulin rejoins Pogacar. A little later the remnants of the peloton also bridge across before Nibali jumps clear with Landa, Uran and Van Aert.
The main group rejoins before the last climb.
On the Cima Calisperna Hirschi, Van Aert, Fuglsang, Alaphilippe, Roglic and Kwiatkowski distance the other before Alaphilippe goes alone. The Frenchman enters the descent with a lead of 13 seconds and he solos to the rainbow jersey.
Van Aert sprints to silver, while Hirschi bests Kwiatkowksi with a few millimetres for bronze.
