With a bit of imagination, you could say the first and second halves of the route mirror each other. The stage begins with a long false flat uphill, and after a short descent, the Collada de Olleros de Alba offers 6.6-kilometre of climbing at 3.6%. At 8.3%, the final kilometre is by far the toughest.

After the descent and a false flat section — first uphill, then downhill — the Alto de La Garandilla follows, a 3.4-kilometre climb at 4.9%. There is no steep kicker here, but the route remains at altitude for another 6 kilometres, before a short climb precedes the descent.

Just as the opening phase gradually rises for kilometres on a false flat, the finale gradually descends in the same way. Right at the end, the finishing straight then kicks up slightly.

The first three riders across the finish line gain 10, 6 and 4 bonus seconds, while 6, 4 and 2 seconds are up for grabs at the intermediate sprint.
