The football club had slipped down to Spain’s third tier in recent years, but not so the riders battling for victory at the stadium gates. They are very much at the peak of their powers. Take for instance Marianne Vos, who has won two out of seven stages in all three editions. Good chance she will once again mount a challenge for glory. There’s a good chance that red jersey holder Franziska Koch will mount a serious bid for glory. Or Lotte Kopecky may take revenge for her second place on the opening day and her failed sprint in stage 2.
If anything, the parcours of stage 3 is made for that type of rider. It is certainly not completely flat, but nor does it feature any major climbs. That said, it is surprising that no mountain points are on offer. The unclassified climbs along the way throw in 3.8 kilometres at 4.9% (after 20 km), 2 kilometres at 6% (after 91 km), 2.5 kilometres at 5.4% (after 109 km) and 1 kilometre at 6% (after 115 km).
From that final rise, the riders descend for 5.5 kilometres into A Coruña, followed by a flat final 1.5 kilometres.
The first three riders across the finish line gain 10, 6 and 4 bonus seconds, while 6, 4 and 2 seconds are up for grabs at the intermediate sprint.
