Race report
Sean Quinn is the first attacker of the day and Jarrad Drizners tracks him down. The two open a 1 minute gap before they are brought back. An attempt by Stefan Bissegger, Sean Flynn and Mathis Le Berre is very short-lived and then Eric Fagundez heads out alone. The rider from Uruguay carves out a 5 minutes lead.
The gap falls to 1 minute on the Collado de la Ibola, which inspires KOM leader Eduardo Sepulveda to chase. He tracks Fagundez down and cements his KOM lead at the top.
The peloton regroups with 38 kilometres remaining, while red jersey Evenepoel wins the intermediate sprint to extend his lead with 6 seconds.
Groves powers to his second sprint win in a row, although an unexpected guest almost overhauls in the dying metres – Flippo Ganna -, while Dries Van Gestel finished in third.
Evenepoel extends his lead on GC with the intermediate sprint time bonus of 6 seconds.
