The route is similar to the opener of two years ago. Back then, Mathieu van der Poel took the spoils after a race with full on echelon action.
The riders clip into their pedals in front of Al Dhafra Castle, 30 kilometres west of Madīnat Zāyid, a city with 30,000 inhabitants.
After moving through Madīnat Zāyid the riders brush past the Habshan oil fields on their way to the Arabian Gulf. They reach finish venue Al Mirfa, a small coastal village, with one 18.8 kilometres lap to go.
The first three riders on the line gain time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds, while the intermediate sprints come with 3, 2 and 1 seconds.
