The climbing starts early in the race, as the riders head towards Tàrbena, tackling 6.7 kilometres at an average gradient of 5.4%. There is no immediate descent, on the contrary, shortly afterwards the Coll de Rates follows: 1.5 kilometres at 6.2%. Only then does the route head downhill.
Just over 20 kilometres later, the peloton reaches the foot of Alto de Miserat, a brute of a climb measuring 5.1 kilometres at an average gradient of 10.1%. The riders then remain at altitude for around 15 kilometres, before a descent of almost 30 kilometres leads to the Alto de Sorrells, a short climb of 2.5 kilometres at 5.8%.
Rolling terrain carries the race over the next 40 kilometres towards Calpe, where the Alto de Fustera awaits: 4.5 kilometres at 4.6%. Those numbers are misleading, however, as the ascent is highly irregular, featuring several ramps well into double figures. From the summit, 27 kilometres remain.
After descending to the coast and 7 kilometres on the flat, the riders face the climb to the residential area of Cumbre del Sol, part of the municipality of Benitachell. It begins at a roundabout and quickly ramps up to 18% gradients. The steepest section is around 300 metres long, while the climb itself rises for 2 kilometres at just under 10%. Including the false flat approach and run-out, the full effort measures 3.3 kilometres at an average of 6.2%.
In Cumbre del Sol, the route dips briefly downhill before a 2-kilometre drag at just over 2% follows, leading to a short descent and the final 5 kilometres on the flat.
The first three riders across the finish line gain 10, 6 and 4 bonus seconds, while 3, 2 and 1 seconds are available at the intermediate sprint.
