Race report
On the first ascent, KOM leader Danny van der Tuuk goes on the attack with Julien Bernard, Steff Cras, Lewis Askey, Jakub Otroba, Fernando Tercero, Carlos García Pierna and Tommaso Nencini. The eight reach the summit of the Coll de Rates with a 3-minute gap, while Van der Tuuk gets the better of García Pierna in the fight for mountain points.

On the brutally steep Miserat, the gap drops to 1 minute, before García Pierna outsprints Van der Tuuk at the summit.

The next phase is dominated by a long descent. Throughout this section, the gap between the breakaway and the peloton hovers at around a minute and a half.

On the climb of the Sorrells, Nencini is unable to match the pace of the other leaders. At the summit, Van der Tuuk gets the better of García Pierna in the sprint for the mountain points.

Only Bernard and Cras remain at the front on the Alto de Fustera, while the greatly reduced peloton closes in to half a minute.

Bernard shrugs off Cras on the Puig de la Llorença. Nearing the top, only eight riders remain in the peloton as Remco Evenepoel asserts control. He gobbles up Bernard and drops Antonio Tiberi as the last rider in his wheel.

Evenepoel charges decisively for the double: stage win and overall lead. João Almeida then outsprints Giulio Pellizzari for second, with Antonio Tiberi finishing fourth at the same time.
