Shortly after the start, the road rises to Palù di Giovo. The first 3 kilometres climb at 6.2% before the ascent levels off significantly. The riders then drop back into the Adige Valley and follow it upstream for several kilometres until the Kalterer Höhe climb begins. This ascent measures 4.4 kilometres at an average gradient of 6.6%.
The riders plunge back into the Adige Valley, and straight after the first finish passage the Nobls climb begins. This features an 8% average gradient over the first 4 kilometres, followed by a further kilometre at (almost) double-digit gradients. This section also marks the start of the circuit.
The full Nobls climb rises from Bolzano over 12.7 kilometres at an average of 7%, with the third kilometre from the summit reaching 10.1%. Once over the top, the road does not immediately descend – that happens only after Jenesien, and certainly not all the way back to Bolzano.
Instead, the riders hit the steep kilometre at (almost) double digits straight away. The road continues to rise towards the intermediate sprint in Cologna di Sopra and then on to the summit. The second ascent of Nobls is 9.2 kilometres long at an average of 6.2%.
Just over 3 kilometres after the summit, the riders pass through Jenesien again, before the Tour of the Alps concludes with a 12.4-kilometre descent back to Bolzano.
The first three riders on the line gain time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds, while the bonus sprint in Cologna di Sopra comes with 6, 4 and 2 seconds.
