Edition 81 of the Tour of Britain is on the cycling calendar from Sunday 5 September to Sunday the 12th. The inaugural edition was held in 1945, just after the Second World War, and after numerous incarnations – at times resulting in multiple editions during one season – the current version of the race began in 2004. So yes, one could argue it will be the 16th Tour of Britain. The eight-day stage race is played out on flat to hilly terrain.
The Big Start of the coming edition will be in Cornwall. The race sets off from Penzance to finish in Bodmin. Other likely starts and finishes are in Saint Just, Saint Ives, Hayle, Camborne, Pool, Redruth, Falmouth, Penryn, Truro, Newquay, and the Eden Project outside Saint Austell .
Mathieu van der Poel is title holder. The Dutch phenomenon also won three stages in 2019, while the Tour of Britain was cancelled in 2020.
