Tour de Suisse 2026 Route stage 3: Bad Ragaz - Bad Ragaz
First published on 17 Jun
The road climbs virtually from the start. And not just gently either, as after 4 kilometres the riders crest a short but steep climb of 2 kilometres at an average gradient of 10.1%.
After that, the peloton rolls across flat roads towards the hilly section, which begins after 28 kilometres with the climb to Wildhaus. This ascent measures 9.1 kilometres at an average gradient of 6.7%. A descent then leads down to Nesslau. The opening section is a proper downhill, after which the riders follow the River Thur downstream on a gentle false flat.
Just before reaching Nesslau, the route leaves the valley via a 1.4-kilometre climb averaging 8.7%. The road then rises gradually towards the foot of the Schwägalppass, a demanding ascent of 4 kilometres at 8.5%.
By the summit, most of the climbing is done and dusted, with still roughly 95 kilometres remaining. Shortly after passing through Appenzell, a stretch of 2.5 kilometres at 5.3% provides the final climb of the day. The road continues to undulate for several kilometres before the descent to Altstätten signals the start of the flat run-in to the finish.
From Altstätten, the riders head to Oberriet and then follow the Rhine Valley, first alongside the Austrian border and then the border with Liechtenstein, before returning to where it all began earlier in the day: Bad Ragaz.
The Tissot Kilometre offers bonus seconds of 3, 2 and 1 at two points, while the first thee riders across the finish line gain 10, 6 and 4 seconds.
