Race report
The race starts without Bahrain Victorious, Tudor and Intermarché-Circus-Wanty. Those teams pulled out off the Tour de Suisse after Gino Mäder’s passing. Another 17 riders, including Mäder’s compatriots Michael Schär, Stefan Küng, Marc Hirschi and Mauro Schmid, pulled out of the race as well.
The peloton remains bunched for the entire day until the times for the GC are taken with 25 kilometres to.
Powless attacks in the only remaining climb. He is brought back before Evenepoel goes clear with 17.5 kilometres to go. The World Champion opens up a 50 seconds gap and takes the win in honour of Mäder.
