Upon leaving Sarnen, the bunch rides to the north-east in a ride you can easily dub ‘route of the Swiss lakes’. There are about 7 lakes along the route today.
Just like departure town Sarnen, the arrival town Heiden is on a lake: the Bodensee. The rolling route has three 2nd category cols and the finish is atop a 3 kilometre climb of 5.6%.
