Race report
Kenny Elissonde, Lennard Kämna, Michael Storer, Michael Albasini, Andrey Amador, Roland Thalmann and former leader Jan Tratnik join forces at kilometre 30. The gap does not grow beyond 1.30 minutes, even when Amador – who is a threat on GC – stops his efforts with Albasini. Nikita Stalnov takes the opportunity to bridge across to the lead group.
The lead group is reeled in with 18 kilometres remaining, while De Gendt strikes inside the last 7 kilometres. The Flemish attacker is brought back, though.
On the steep incline to the line Rui Costa opens the sprint, but Gaudu surges clear to win the race with a bike length. Leader Roglic finishes in third to hold on to the lead jersey.
