Tour de Romandie 2019 Route stage 1: Neuchâtel – La Chaux-de-Fonds
If the football clubs of Neuchâtel and La Chaux-de-Fonds play against each other, it is a derby. The places are only 20 kilometres apart - yet, the riders face eight times that distance and the race is pepped up with five climbs. In the first half, the riders climb to Fontanezier and, after a short drop, the ascent continues to Mauborget. The third ascent, Le Haut-de-la-Côte, is crested around the halfway mark.
With almost 50 kilometres remaining the Col de la Vue des Alpes is crested, which is a 5.5 kilometres climb with an average gradient of 4.4%. Back in the valley the road points straight back up the hardest climb of the day. The Col de Tourne is 14.6 kilometres long and its average slope sits at 5%. The ascent peaks out inside the last 30 kilometres.
Two sections with shallow gradients lead to the flat finish.
