Tour de Pologne 2020: Evenepoel solos to leader’s jersey

The Queen stage of the Tour de Pologne is played out in the High Tatra Mountains. Remco Evenepoel rides to victory with a a solo of 50 kilometres. Jakob Fuglsang and Simon Yates finish in second and third, roughly 2 minutes down on the Flemish youngster. (Slideshow route/profile)

Race report
Harper and Haas jump clear early on and Stosz, Małecki and Whelan bridge across. The five open up a gap of more than 4 minutes.

With 66 kilometres to go leader Carapaz hits the deck when the gap has fallen to 1 minute. He quickly rejoins the main group.

A little later Yates goes on the attack and the peloton disintegrates. A group of some forty riders gobble up the leaders and Evenepoel goes on the counter-attack.

The Flemish rider opens up a gap of 1 minute, while Fuglsang, Yates and Majka go after him inside the last 25 kilometres. The Dane then ties in on his own, but to no avail. Evenepoel widens the gap to almost 2 minutes.

To honour his team mate Fabio Jakobsen he crosses the finish line with the sprinter’s starting number – 75 – raised above his head.
