The race travels to Zipaquirá, which is the town where Egan Bernal was raised. Given the flat nature of the last 60 kilometres, a stage victory of the Tour de France champion is unlikely, though.
The riders set off from Paipa again to tackle the familiar ascents of the Alto del Moral and Alto Tierra Negra. Both were included in stage 3 and stage 4. The Tour Colombia then continues to the foot of the Alto Ventaquemade. The 10 kilometres climb at shallow gradients is crested at kilometre 80.
On the Tunja-Bogotá highway the route gradually ascents to the Albarracin toll gate before an ever more gradual descent takes the riders to the foot of the Alto Sisga. This is the last climb of the day and it is crested with 60 kilometres remaining. This final section of the day is pan-flat.
The first three riders on the line gain time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds, while three intermediate sprints (at kilometre 38, 104 and 138) come with 3, 2 and 1 seconds each
