Race report
Anthony Perez, Erik Fetter, Davide Ballerini, Simon Guglielmi, Florian Stork, Zdenek Stybar and Quinn Simmons establish the breakaway on the first hill of the day. The seven race to a lead of more than 3 minutes.
In the ascent to Gualdo the last attackers – Perez, Ballerini, Stork – are reeled in.
The favourites are still together inside the last 5 kilometres of the Sassotetto climb. Then Caruso gives it a go. He opens up a 20 seconds gap, but he is brought back just after the flamme rouge.
Roglic times his sprint to perfection. The Slovene outguns Ciccone and Geoghegan Hart on the line and takes the GC lead. Kämna, who finishes in fifth position, drops back to second place, 4 seconds down on Roglic.
