Race report
Many riders are keen to make the breakaway, and as a result it takes a long time before one finally sticks. It’s only on the Côte de Lentilly that Aleksandr Vlasov, Joshua Tarling, Rémi Cavagna, Jefferson Alveiro Cepeda and Nicolas Prodhomme form the break.

The five riders build a 2-minute lead, but that doesn’t stop three time trial specialists – Victor Campanaerts, Iván Romeo and Lorenzo Milesi – from joining them. There are still roughly 100 kilometres to go as the three catch up.

Cepeda heads out alone on the Côte de Sécheras, and the peloton crests the summit 1 minute behind him.

The Ecuadorian's effort comes to an end on the Côte de Saint-Jean-de-Muzols. Not long after, Daniel Felipe Martínez, runner-up in the GC, has to let the rest go. At the front, yellow jersey holder Jonas Vingegaard makes a counter move: he attacks.

The Dane brings home the bacon in a 21-kilometre solo effort, thus strengthening his lead in the general classification. Valentin Paret-Peintre finishes second after dropping the other chasers on the Côte de Saint-Barthélemy-le-Plain.
