Paris-Nice 2025 Route stage 3: Circuit Magny-Cours - Nevers
In traditional team time trials, the clock stops for the fourth rider to cross the line, but Paris-Nice has done things differently for the past two years, as the rider’s individual time counts. This unique format has inspired some riders to attempt solo attacks in the closing kilometres, though none have yet succeeded. Last year, UAE Team Emirates secured victory by finishing together, just as Jumbo-Visma (now Visma | Lease a Bike) did in 2023.
While the route was flat in 2023 and slightly undulating last year, this time there’s a climb on the course that could provide a launchpad for solo moves. The Côte de la Pisserotte is a 1-kilometre climb averaging 5.4%, with a steepest section at 11%. The summit lies just over 4 kilometres from the finish, followed by a gentle downhill false flat to the line.
The rest of the course is a mix of flat and undulating terrain. It starts on rolling roads — the first 4.3 kilometres consist of a lap on the Circuit Magny-Cours — and after just over 12 kilometres, the riders descend to a flat section, which leads onto the Côte de la Pisserotte.
A time check is located at the 14.3-kilometre mark.
The 2026 Tour de France will start with a team time trial using the same format, meaning each rider’s individual time will count. Once again, the finale features a challenging climb to inspire solo riders to try their luck. This time, it will be even more worthwhile, as the coveted yellow jersey will be up for grabs.
